The idea of bringing comedic plays to The Siren was presented to me over a breakfast of two eggs and toast by my friend and owner of The Siren Theater, Shelley McLendon.
Shelley has been at the helm of The Siren since October, 2015, presenting comedy including sketch, movies parodies, improv, stand up, story telling and variety shows. Doing comedic plays, starting out with female playwrights, fits right into the mix.
I attended The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC, then worked as an actor and dancer there once upon a time. After leaving New York, I thought I had left the world of theatre behind. Fast forward to today, after spending several years as an improviser and sketch writer/performer, I found the offer to produce plays to be one that I couldn’t refuse. Given my love of comedy, theatre, and collaboration, as well as my desire to contribute to the current wave of female-driven projects, The Siren, which is run by a woman, feels like the perfect venue to make this thing happen.
